New federally required child care training due by 9/30/17

By now you should have received an important ‘Dear Provider letter’ from OCFS about a new federally mandated training requirement that must be completed by September 30, 2017. Please see below for links. ALL individuals (including on-site providers and assistants) working in early learning and care settings – family, group family, legally-exempt, and centers – will need to complete the new training called ‘Foundations in Health and Safety’ before September 30, 2017.

OCFS developed this course to satisfy new federal standards that states are required to meet as a result of the Child Care Development Block Grant Re-authorization Bill passed by the U.S. Congress in 2014. The course is available online – at no cost to you – through SUNY Professional Development Program.

It is a self-directed; 5 hour web-based training is available to you and your staff members at any time – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The web application will save your progress and allow you up to 30 days to complete the entire course.

The course will soon be offered in Spanish and Mandarin. If you have questions, give us a call at 877-483-CSEA (2732). We encourage you to get started soon so that you will be in compliance when this new regulation rolls out!

If you do not complete this training by September 30, you will be out of compliance. Providers who are out of compliance will not be paid by DSS if they do not complete the training by September 30.
