CSEA/VOICE Local 100A recently joined NYS Senator Samra G. Brouk and NYS Assemblywoman Sarah Clark in Rochester to continue the fight for a change to the infant to provider ratio for Family and Group Family modalities. Currently, New York is only one of two states in the country that say one provider for every two infants is needed for home-based care at 24 months or younger.

This law will:

  • Increase your earning power by opening up more childcare slots
  • Bring parity and fairness between home-based and center-based care
  • Expand access to affordable infant care for New York families

CSEA/VOICE Monroe Chapter Representative Armett Newman, alongside Tiffany Vasquez, Group Family Provider passionately spoke at the press conference and shared their firsthand experience.

Newman said, “I represent 1200 home-based child care providers in Monroe County. Leaving this as is unnecessarily limits how many children providers can care for. That means fewer openings for working families and more financial stress for providers. Signing this fix into law while aligning the standard of supervision for children under 18 months is a simple change that will create more childcare slots, which will support home-based childcare providers and increase access to affordable infant care for New York families.”

The bill has cleared both the NYS Assembly and State Senate. It only needs to be signed by Governor Hochul.

Our union continues to take action.
Governor Hochul needs to hear all of our voices.
